SMT involved in international research consortium

In collaboration with 13 other partners from a total of 7 European countries, SMT is working on rail vehicles of the future. With a balanced combination of universities, research institutions and industrial partners, the consortium is well positioned. The main goal of this 24-month project is to develop innovative and affordable solutions for the manufacture of car bodies, innovative composite doors and the development of a modular concept for the interior under consideration of lightweight construction strategies.

The project is called CARBODIN and is funded by the European rail research initiative Shift2Rail. The project will make a vital contribution to a new generation of lighter, more energy and cost efficient passenger trains.

Fire protection: Solutions for rolling stock

The international conference "Fire Protection of Rolling Stock" took place in Berlin on Feb 25th and 26th 2020. SMT presented various composites on its own exhibition stand, that meet the requirements on lightweight performance and the strict fire protection requirements for rail vehicles at the same time. Of particular interest for the guests of our booth was the light weight flooring system for rail vehicles, which was awarded innovation prizes (tested according to EN 45545-2, R10, with HL3 classification) and other fire protection-tested components made of 100% bio-resin for interior cladding.

Side skirt with SHM sensor network on display at COMPOSITE Europe

In the period from 10th – 12th September 2019, a side skirt for a commuter railcar made by Forster SMT GmbH, was exhibited at the booth of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) during the COMPOSITE Europe.
